BUSINESSES

All organisations are in the travel business, whether they realise it or not. We travel to work, we travel for work, and more often than not, we do this in the car.

As long as management regards transport separately from other operational issues, it will find itself ‘firefighting’ the consequences. This is always costly and generally ineffective. Many businesses have found that the key to successfully responding to the challenges of transport is to recognise the need for a Travel Plan.

A travel plan is a general term for a package of measures tailored to the needs of an organisation with the general aim of promoting greener, cleaner travel choices and reducing reliance on the car. It involves the development of a set of mechanisms, initiatives and targets that together can enable an organisation to reduce the impact of travel and transport on the environment, whilst also bringing a number of other benefits to an organisation as an employer and to staff.

Travel plans are not prescriptive. They can cover not only staff travel to work but also staff travel at work. They are designed to encourage us to make the appropriate choice for the journey, make travelling easier, to try new modes, yet retaining the freedom for the individual to make choices on the way we travel.

TPS have experience of working with a wide and varied range of organisations to develop travel plan strategies that meet specific aims and objectives.
