TPS was recently appointed to prepare a Transport Statement in support of a drive thru Costa Coffee in Barrow-in-Furness. The development site is located adjacent to a particularly congested part of the local highway network and as such the TS was required to demonstrate that the proposals would not result in an undue detrimental impact on highway capacity.
Consideration was given to the likely quantum of vehicular trips and the proportion of these that would be ‘new’; it highlighted that the vast majority of trips would already be on the highway network and would simply visit the site as part of an existing trip. As a consequence, the uplift in trips at the neighbouring junction to the site access was considered to be negligible.
Operational assessments of the (existing) site access were also undertaken to demonstrate that development traffic could be suitably accommodated.
