Development proposals for a 41 unit residential scheme in Guisborough have been granted approval at planning committee. Having originally prepared a Transport Statement for the site, TPS have since worked with client Taylor Wimpey to prepare supplementary supporting material including junction capacity assessments, a speed survey, & Stage 1 RSA.

Preparation of the transport statement included the need for detailed analysis and application of local and national design standards, with particular focus upon visibility splay requirements. Our team were able to illustrate that based upon site specific factors such as traffic speed, horizontal and vertical alignments, the required visibility splays could be achieved.

TPS have completed a travel plan for Bradnet, a user-led organisation that seeks to empower and enable disabled people to lead their chosen lifestyle by providing appropriate services.

The travel plan, for Bradnets new Social Enterprise Centre in Bradford, has been developed in accordance with the BREEAM standards. As part of the development process Bradnet were required by one of the major funders of the project to deliver a building that was classed ‘very good’ on the BREEAM scale.

The BREEAM assessment (Building Research Establishments Environmental Assessment Method) is an all-round measure of the sustainability of a building. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and specification and has become the de facto measure used to describe a buildings overall environmental performance.

The BREEAM assessment program aims to recognise the consideration given to accommodating a range of travel options for building users, thereby encouraging the reduction of user reliance on forms of travel that have the highest environmental impact.

In assessing the impact that the scheme would have on the surrounding highway network the TPS team carried traffic counts at key local junctions, before analysing the impact that additional development traffic would have on their operation. Issues such as site access, sustainable accessibility, accident data and scheme design were also considered within the comprehensive report.

Office: Stonebridge Court, Suite 2, 151-153 Wakefield Road, Horbury, Wakefield, WF4 5HQ

Term: Initial 6 months contract part time (3 days a week)

Salary: £27,500 – £37,500 per annum pro rata – dependent upon experience

Closing date: The closing date for applications is 19th October 2011 with interviews taking place shortly after

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Due to an expanding workload, we require a senior transport planner to join our Development Planning team. The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in not only fulfilling existing client requirements, but also in expanding the Development Planning team to accommodate identified, and as yet unidentified, additional service demand.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading on a variety of projects, primarily focussed upon the provision of transport/highways advice to private sector clients throughout the development process. You will be involved in projects from the outset and will take an active role in engaging directly with clients and other relevant stakeholders.

With a sound understanding of the development process you will be able to provide clients with advice from initial site appraisals, through to the preparation and agreement of relevant planning documents.

KEY SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

You will have a proven track record of leading, through direct client engagement, on the delivery of a wide variety of projects.

Educated to degree level, you will have experience in scoping, preparing and agreeing relevant planning documents, likely to include transport assessments and transport statements. You will have detailed knowledge of current and emerging national and regional transport policies and guidance.

Ideally you should have knowledge of junction design and junction analysis software, and a working knowledge of trip generation databases. More importantly however you will have a sound understanding of the planning process and be competent in the preparation of planning documents.

You will have proven experience of representing not only the organisation, but also the client. This will extend to representation at client project meetings, planning committees, and stakeholder consultations.

You will be an organised and motivated individual who enjoys challenges and takes pride in your work. We are looking for an individual with initiative, someone who can take charge of allocated projects and who works well in team scenarios contributing innovative ideas, practical solutions and adding value.

Whilst initially advertised as a 6 month part time contract, the scope of the role (both short and long term) will largely depend on your own ability to expand the role from within an already successful and supportive team.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply we would ask that you send a full CV with covering email to john.hacker@travelplanservices.co.uk
