Travel Planning: What we do
>> travel plan monitoring
The first step towards deciding upon the most appropriate package of measures for a travel plan is to obtain a complete understanding of existing travel conditions and patterns. However, to achieve this will require more than simple counts of traffic and pedestrian flows, parked cars or cycles in shelters. To properly understand how and why people travel in the way they do requires a survey of people, their existing travel habits and their attitudes toward travel.
Once a travel plan is in place there is a need to check the impact of the new measures/policies that have been introduced. A travel plan is a continuous and on-going process of monitoring and review, rather than a one-off event.
In addition to a need to monitor the success of a travel plan against targets, understanding how and why people travel the way they do now and in the future can be critical for a variety of reasons such as staff recruitment, retention and motivation or the choice between relocation sites and extent of car parking in new developments.
At TPS we offer a range of travel plan monitoring services, from initial site audits, to the management of annual staff travel surveys on behalf of private organisations, developers and local authorities. Employing numerous techniques including traffic counts, right through to stakeholder forums and online surveys using our own online survey manager package, TPS are able to monitor and review both current and on-going travel condition, patterns and attitudes.
